Thermal Laser Photocoagulation-Thermal laser photocoagulation is a procedure used to treat wet macular degeneration. In the procedure, a laser is aimed at abnormal vessels and, when the laser comes into contact with retinal tissue, it effectively destroys the vessel. However, the laser also destroys surrounding tissues which leaves a blind spot in the visual field. This limits the effectiveness of the treatment and the number of patients that are candidates for the procedure. While the only macular degeneration treatments procedure available for some time, it has fallen out of favor in recent years due to the advent of the less damaging photodynamic procedure.
